Troy and Andrea, Thanks for the glimpse into your first few days of excitement. Boys, boys, boys... what supernatural energy they possess! They look to be having a blast. Do Sylvia and Baxter have any clue what is about to happen in their household?
I'm praying you reach a breakthrough with the language barrier. May God instill in you words and mannerisms that the boys will understand to help alleviate the tough times. I pray for smooth transition and incredible bonding in the days ahead.
It will get better. Maybe not tomorrow, but you will look back very soon and see progress. One of the things we did that I think helped was spending ALOT of time walking and going to whatever park we could find. We spent hours every day just walking around the same blocks and playing at parks. I don't know what the area is like where you are, but even if it's only running in a grassy area and playing ball it will help. They were tired by the end of the day, and much easier to get them to do what we wanted. It will take them awhile to realize that you're in charge and they have to listen. By all means always, always do whatever you say you will do as far as discipline goes. If you say (for example) if you jump on the bed you don't get a treat, then mean it. The language thing will improve too. We have kept ours at home for school and while their language may have developed a bit faster had they been in school, the time spent together has been so valuable to think. You will get into a routine and so will they. Hang in there, it will get better and even more so when you get home and are back on familiar turf and can be more in control. Praying for you.
It looks like the boys are adjusting. They seem to have accepted you guys. They do seem to have energy to spare. But they are OH so cute! It seems hard now, but just wait until they put those little arms around you and say "I luv u". That time will come and then you will forget the bad stuff and remember why you are there. Samuel, Daniel and Luis need the love that you have so abundantly to give. Love Mom & Randy
My house looks like that all the time.....minus the Spanish. Did I ever tell you the story of how Carter lost his first tooth??? Colin KICKED it out!!!! :)
It will just take some time to figure out how to channel that energy. Once you get home that will be easier. Can you get them outside to kick a ball or go on a "nature" walk? Hang in there guys...they are cute as can be!!!!
This is EXACTLY the first thing our boys do when staying at a hotel!!!! Even Felix tries to jump from bed to bed and one of us has to stand in between to make sure he doesn't bite it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! It's pretty fun (and it's not your bed!).
FUNNY! My kids were looking at the video with me....I asked them, "Are you suppose to jump on the bed?" Andrew's response, "No... Colombia, Yes!" (Interpreted: No, not at our house; yes, we can jump on the beds in Colombia!) Ha!
Ha, ha! We didn't exactly want them to jump on the beds...but there was only so much you could do stuck in a room for 11 days! Argh! We were in Florencia and wasn't able to travel around without an interpreter, but it looks like where you are it is more touristy! I hope you enjoy that area, and I look fwd to the pictures! After the Derrs visit, I know that's a place I'd like to visit!
And, the days may seem long now, but when you get home, get in a routine and get to lay down YOUR rules, things get better, flow better, and the day flies by.... you guys are doing great! Hang in there! God bless!
August 7, 2008: HOMECOMING!!! The boys are now officially U.S. citizens!
August 4, 2008: Embassy visit to apply for the boys' visas. This was a lot of waiting, but pretty much straightforward.
July 31, 2008: Fly to Bogotá. Meet with the embassy doctor.
July 24, 2008: Sentencia! We are officially a family in the eyes of the Colombian government. The boys now have the last name Eisenberger-Woods!
July 16, 2008: Integration Meeting at ICBF. This was a blur of meeting with a ton of questions that were answered. Now the legal process begins and we do nothing but enjoy the boys while we await Sentencia.
July 11, 2008: Meeting with the psychologist from ICBF. She came by the hotel to check in and see if we have any initial questions that we need answers to (of course we do!) She also wanted to see how the boys were doing in their new environment.
July 9, 2008: Presentation Day. What a beautiful, exhausting day it has been.
July 8, 2008: Fly to Pereira. Get settled in to our hotel and pray for a good night's sleep.
July 5, 2008: Travel to Bogota. Spend a couple of days sightseeing and then off to Pereira.
June 20, 2008: Plane tickets purchased, but we couldn't get the exact dates we wanted, so we are traveling on July 5 instead.
June 19, 2008: We got our official travel dates! July 7 we fly to Bogota, July 8 we fly to Pereira, and July 9 we meet our sons!
June 11, 2008: The English version of the paperwork arrived in our inboxes! It is amazing to read about our hijos!
June 9, 2008: The Spanish paperwork arrived on our doorstep at 8:11 AM. We are making our way through it. The translated version is due to arrive some time later this week.
May 14, 2008: Sarah called to let us know that ICBF has 3 boys for us and that they will have more information for us in the next few days!
March 8, 2008: Sarah, our caseworker, asked us to update some of our paperwork because they think we will be getting our referral within a month from Pereira.
November 26, 2007: ICBF has sent our dossier to the city of Pereira to look for a match for us.
November 15, 2007: Colombia has approved us to adopt 3 children under the age of 6!!!
September 24, 2007: Approval received!!! It is dated August 16, so we have been on the list for about 5 weeks.
May 11, 2007: Dossier translation complete and submitted to ICBF for approval
April 23, 2007: Dossier shipped to Colombia
Apri 18, 2007: Dossier sent to Commonwealth Adoptions International

I'm exhausted just watching that! Ah to have the energy of a child...

Looks JUST like my girls--maybe slightly less wild. :)
