Calling All Dog Lovers...

Look at these sweet faces?

Sylvia, 2 years, 3 months

Baxter, 10 months

As we prepare our house and continue to fundraise, one detail about our impending trip becomes more and more abundantly clear... We desperately need some one (or a couple of some ones) to watch our dogs while we are in Colombia. The good news: they are really cool dogs, sweet, full of personality, completely house broken, crate trained, entertaining, and really cuddly. The less good news: we will be gone for about 4-5 weeks and they both weigh between 50-60 lbs. We aren't really sure that we can afford to board them for a month or more in addition to all of the other costs we are are incurring during that time, and we don't want to hire a pet sitting service because they will only come in and walk them a couple of times a day (anyone who knows our dogs knows that this will make them stir CRAZY). Any suggestions?

Beautiful dogs! Do you have anyone who can house sit for you? We did that a couple years ago for our other adoption. Helped us out tremendously.

We did the same thing, we had someone housesit for us while we were gone (and we have a dog, too). Is that a possibility? We just didn't want our house sitting empty for that long and also needing dog-care! :). A single woman from our church housesat for us.

Hey! We are looking a praying for a house sitter also. We have also two 60ish pound dogs- A golden retriever and a red-bone coon hound. Our parents usually take them when we travel but a month is a long time and neither set of parents is really interested in keeping them for that long. We will keep your furry friends on the prayer list!

We also had the pet problem too. We have a cat and a 50 lb dog. We were fortunate to have 3 people from my husband's office who volunteered to dog/cat sit for us. Since the dog was an in-house dog and trained, we gave them a schedule and between the 3 of them, the animals were taken care of. One of the girls stayed here for a few days at a time to get away from her roommates which was great for the dog to have some company. I will pray that you find someone to stay with your dogs. I know I hated the idea of our dog being couped up at a kennel (didn't like the money we would have to pay either).

I'll be praying that you find someone to watch over the dogs while you're away. We have a big 50 lb dog and a little pug dog and we had a heck of a time figuring out what to do with them while gone. Two ladies my husband did work for this summer stepped forward for the challenge. It seemed a great fit because they had a large spread with lots of acreage and had 10 dogs themselves. Our dogs seemed to enjoy their surroundings and mix well with the other dogs. Halfway through our stay we got word that our big dog had gotten into a fight with one of their little dogs (that sadly died due to the injuries). Then our pug ran off and was later picked up at the dog shelter with a $1000 bill owed for x-rays, walking with a limp from being hit, and needing to be implant with a chip before release (and the only way was to lie and say the pug was theirs). The ladies fell in love with our pug dog and we really had a time getting him back. I'm still trying to straighten out the mess from his chip implant saying he belongs to another person. Just crazy!

My advice... find someone to housesit if you can, and by all means find someone trustworthy for the task! We'll keep your situation in our prayers.

Gosh, I wish I could watch them for you. There's nothing more fun than having dogs for a little while as a taste for what it'd be like to have them long-term. I guess I'm not the best candidate since I've never had dogs before, but it'd be so fun to walk and feed them and R&T would LOVE them. I hardly leave the area. They are ADORABLE!

What great pictures of the kids. Ed and I will discuss taking one of them. If I think of anything I will let you know. You know we would take them both if we did not have two dogs ourselves.
